Whether you want to experience classic Colombian cuisine or are craving some western-style comfort food, San Gil has it all.

Boasting a huge selection of fresh fruit and veg, the local market (open 6am – 2/4pm) provides a great option for hungry travelers on a tight budget. Fill up on delicious almuerzos (set lunches including soup, a main and a juice) for as little as 4,000 pesos, as well as an array of traditional Colombian snacks including empanadas, papa rellenas and tamales. This is also an excellent place to taste some of the delicious exotic Colombian fruits at one of the fresh juice bars. Alternatively, for those feeling adventurous, you can try the regional delicacy of hormiga culona(big ass ants).

After an action packed day of activities head to Sam’s Gastro Pub (open 7:30am-10pm) to dine on some of the best steaks in Colombia. Offering his and her portions to accommodate any appetite this is a must for any meat-lover. Feeling adventurous? For a hint of local flare have your steak topped with ant sauce – don’t judge until you taste it! The menu also includes a wide selection of BBQ, burgers and salads as well as delicious reasonably priced set breakfasts and lunches. This homely pub is also a great place to enjoy a drink serving Colombian brewed craft beer (Bogota Beer Company), fresh Colombian coffee and an excellent selection of lemonades and ice teas. Sam’s Pub is located at Calle 12 #8-71.

Another great option for a filling snack or light lunch is Arepas el Zaguan (open 9am-1pm). Located opposite the market or just round the corner from Sam’s VIP, they offer up some of the best stuffed arepas and empanadas in town. El Zaguan is located between Carrera 11 and 12 on Calle 12.
